I brought a Ring doorbell soon after they first came out (very first version) in fact it was when they were mega expensive (which was before Amazon purchased the Company and knocked the stuffing out of the price). I recently purchased a power supply (from Amazon) advertised as okay for Ring door bells first issue. I wired it as per the instructions, it gives out an off load voltage of 21. 5 volts a. c. The problem is the internal (unremovable) battery discharges even with it connected to the power supply so I'm still getting reminders from Ring that the battery is really low. Any advice about what I can use to power my device and keep the battery charged or, am I wasting my time trying?

The doorbells, even with being hardwired, still need to be charged every once in a while if there is a lot of occurrences on the doorbell. Essentially hardwiring is just constantly charging the battery but you can drain the battery faster than it charges on the original model. The 2nd gen is much better and does not do this (as much)

Have you tried changing it with the cable supplied to confirm that the battery is good?

@otes342 I can charge it via the USB by taking it off the mounting (as I have been doing these past two years). I just hoped the permanent voltage supply would maintain the battery charge state so I would not have to remove the unit off its mounting plate any more.

That's fine I was thinking that the battery may noy have been taking a charge.

I wonder if the wiring from the transformer to the doorbell needs replacing?

Andrew, it’s new and I have monitored the voltage output at the Doorbell plate so no need to change it.
