So, I have a question. I was wondering why hot wings are so high in points. Yes, I cheated yesterday and gave in. I ate very lite during the day. Zero point items. My daughter used the zero point sauce. But one item wing is like 6 points just for one wing with zero point sauce? I was confused. I am only 3 weeks into program so am still learning
So, I have a question.

The skin and assuming that they're fried maybe?
by (2.3k points)
@fitzgerald thanks, kind of stunned. There was hardly any skin, oh well doesn't matter now, lol

@mair3 wings are covered in skin usually

Cheating is diet mentality. Everything is trackable and a choice. Wings have points because of the skin.
by (2.3k points)
@pervious it always is a decision. Which I made. Still can hardly believe. They weren't that big and not a lot of skin. I was just wondering, still learning
by (26.7k points)
@mair3 - instead of counting # of wings, see if you can weigh them and go by weight instead. Not all wings are the same size.
by (2.3k points)
@marmawke thank you, will remember if it happens again. I may need to get a scale

Only white meat is 0 points.

@cloakroom I think wings are considered white meat BUT. THE SKIN AN@pervious FRYING . make the points.
by (150 points)
@dipetalous No - wings are not considered white meat. .

@cloakroom only breast is zero points not “white meat”
by (150 points)
@odont which is pretty much breast meat. Everything else is dark.
by (910 points)
@cloakroom wings are not zero points foods only breast
by (150 points)
@odont Yes, I know.
by (150 points)
Wings are not really white meat.
by (150 points)
The only true white meat on a chicken is breast meat.

I took off as much skin as I could. put them in air fryer and dusted with dry seasoning. very good. counted 3 points for 4 oz , estimating. wings have mostly white meat do n t they?
by (18.6k points)
Just researched and wings are white .
by (18.6k points)
I guess there are two, schools of thought on the white /dark issue. regardless, air frying and skin removal help a lot. but still points.
by (2.3k points)
@dipetalous thank you
by (1.2k points)
@dipetalous when you order a 2 piece chicken dinner at a restaurant & request white meat only, they give you a breast & a wing. So I think wings are considered white meat while legs & thighs are dark meat.

That 6 points is for a certain amount of wings by weight. You could have weighed yours to see how many points your wings actually were. On the app it says 6 points for 85 grams.
by (2.3k points)
@hejira thank you. I don't have a scale. Probably need to get one
by (1.6k points)
@hejira yes, definitely get scales- you’ll b happy you did!

Not white meat, there's skin, also the sauce usually has butter in it. And they are fried. I doubt the wings you had was 6 points for 1! That's probably more for like restaurant ones :)
by (2.3k points)
@ana @perviousaniels Slaymaker thank you. I am still learning and get confused easily
by (18.6k points)
@ana @perviousaniels Slaymaker there’s skin on a breast too. . I tried to take off as much as possible . just as we do with all chicken parts , yes you’re right , it’s the skin that’s most fat . I don’t eat them but once or twice a year.

by (2.3k points)
@provost that seems so high. What do I know, I am new and don't understand a lot
by (1.6k points)
@provost still 6 for AIR FRIE@pervious?!
by (6.2k points)
@provost I seen 1/2 order 5 wings was 7 sp I googled it

It’s has to do with the nutrition of the wing (vs say a breast). A wing has very little protein and more fat than a breast. (I was shocked too. even without the skin they are high points)
by (2.3k points)
@prejudge96 there is nothing to them, lol lol. Well now I know
by (4.1k points)
@mair3 I hear ya. Haha

I measured it by the “raw” weight and limited the skin I ate. I air-fried the wings so I know it wasn’t too bad.
by (2.3k points)
@grinder thank you for the info.

If you like the wing taste you can do boneless wing bites in the air fryer using 0 point chicken breast then you just count the points for the saice

@perviousark meat is fatty and has points. The sauce was still zero. If that makes sense.
by (4.1k points)
@exorbitant wings are white meat tho.
by (26.6k points)
@prejudge96 they are?!? Are you sure?!? I thought legs and wings were dark meat, breast is white meat. now I need to google this. . I’ll be back.
by (4.1k points)
@exorbitant legs and thighs are dark. Wings and breasts are white.
by (26.6k points)
@prejudge96 good lord. I’m a dork. . Yup. maybe it has to do with the skin. now I’m pulling straws for this answer.
by (4.1k points)
@exorbitant haha. wings have very little protein and higher fat than breasts. even without the skin. That’s basically what I’ve heard it boils down to
by (26.6k points)
@prejudge96 well I’m going with your answer then!  I’ve never been a wing person and apparently didn’t even know the type of meat. Haha!

I have a great recipe for hot “wings” made out of Perdue short cuts. It’s actually Brest meat and boneless but really good. I played around with different ways until I finally got one I love. If you’d like the recipe let me know and I’ll message you. ZERO POINTS.

Yesterday I was so excited for wings. I have cut way back on my salt intake. My first bite of wings tasted terrible, totally salty and yucky. Such a disappointment. Now if only I could do something to make other high point foods taste awful.

Wings are covered in the skin which is where the fat resides. Probably the fattiest part of the bird. Fat equals high points.

Wings are White meat chicken. However, most of what we eat from each wing is skin. Hence the added calories and points. The original recipe for buffalo wing sauce is loaded with butter. Combine the two and that should answer your questions. I hope that helps with all of the mystery.
