Question

Bramble problem.  I have lots of brambles in my garden.Bramble problem. I have lots of brambles in my garden. Some I'm happy to keep and cut back after they fruit every year, but I do have some that are problematic, strangling my raspberry canes and covering an area that I want to use. I can't access their root systems as they are in my neighbours gardens. How can I kill them? Is there a way without using harsh chemicals, I have 6 cats, kids and a wildlife pond!

Im not sure if this too harsh chemical. but my dad cuts down as much as poss, creates holes in strumpy bit n pours in wd40. It kills it downwards. Maybe u could cover it afterwards?

He didnt have brambles tho used on tree stumps n these thorny plants with seed pods cant remember name of them sorry ive only had hrs sleep

Could you talk to your neighbour about it & try and come up with a solution together? Not sure if you’re allowed to damage someone else’s plants even if they are a nasty, invasive weed.

I doubt either of them will let me in to dig them up, they both have landscaped gardens so I can't see them offering to do it either :/

@birt It’s worth a try to ask first - if you explain most people are reasonable. I speak as someone whose neighbour chopped down some overhanging plants from our house (including some berries that were fruiting! ) and just chucked them over our fence. I’d much rather they’d spoken to us about it if there was an issue.

That's awful! The problem I have is getting to the roots of the brambles would mean digging up their gardens. No one is going to let me do it. I wouldn't let anyone do that in my garden! I'm just sick of waging war and cutting them right back every year, only for them to come back stronger than ever. If I can find something to kill them off, I will of course check with them that they don't mind first!
