Done a few ponds but no raised ones, I'd worry about freezing in winter, and I like wildlife in my ponds.

We used an ole bath tub and sunk it level with the ground but you could easily do an earth bank around it and plant wild flowers around it

I done this last week used bits that were in the garden when I moved in and only paid £15 for pond liner from amazon. I put old carpet under the liner to stop any sharp bits.

Wildlife pond or fish pond?
by (330 points)
@bluecoat planning on putting a filter in and some fish, just don’t know where to start lol I have a wide raised bed that I want to dig out, I’ve ordered a pond liner that’s about as far as I’ve got so far lol have no clue about how to support the weight of the water, the electrics for the filter and all that stuff. ive been doing a bit of research online just wanted to get some pointers on how others have done theirs x

Concrete blocks for free, cement cheap off gumtree, butyl liner bought for £120…used half and sold the other half for £120, bottom drain pipe from local building site, air pump (for air lifts) second hand £40. The only things bought were sand and polystyrene sheets. Pond size is 8'*6'*3'

Hopefully will be when the wisteria and other plants flower. It was in the ground but our puppy kept falling into it whilst trying to catch the fish! He also destroyed all my plants around the edge. The culprit

@tammitammie Barlow bless! He’s beautiful ♥️ we have a 5 month old cane corso pup who had eaten my outdoor yukka and 2 hydrangea plants  x

@polycythemia26 oops! But we wouldn't be without them x

@tammitammie Barlow definitely not although I wish they didn’t love eating our gardens so much  x

@polycythemia26 haha I know what you mean. I now have the pond planter and a second planter. Need to make a third. And all my plants/flowers will be in them! Ignore the shed. I'm saving for a log cabin lol

@tammitammie Barlow that’s gorgeous, I love your acer! I need plants in mine, I’ve had a raised bed either side of my fully paved garden for almost 2 years now and all I’ve ever had in there is the 2 hydrangea and the yukka madam destroyed. ill plant up the right side and the left side is the wider one that I want to turn half of into the pond x

@polycythemia26 not sure how the Acer will do as I've moved it. I don't think they particularly like full sun or wind. It's a bit exposed at the mo. Well until I can get my cabin!

My garden isn't big but gonna get one about 9ft x 12ft/14ft ish. We have 3 odd sheds so I want them gone but need it to be kept nice inside. I basically want another room lol x

Use railway sleepers that's how I built mine

@kletter5 I couldn't afford them. But that's what I wanted to use

@tammitammie Barlow ask around if anyone got any they don't need or anyone that's taking 1 apart you may be lucky
