Sorry if this has been asked before, but has anyone tried combining intermittent fasting with Ideal Protein?

I do. I have found that I have soooo much more energy. I workout twice a day (I have an additional 2 egg whites every morning). I haven’t felt weak or fatigued since I started IF . my eating window is 9am-4pm. I wake up at 4:50, go to kickboxing in the morning and strength training late afternoon. I’m in bed by 8pm

@lame87127 I thought working out was bad on Phase 1?
by (14.8k points)
@arezzo10 , between 6-8 ounces depending on how I feel and what I think my body needs.

Working out definitely doesn’t help me lose weight faster, if anything it slows the process. I see not much in the scale moving but definitely see a decrease in body fat. I spoke to my coach and she knows working out is something I cannot give up so she gave me options. Days that I feel I need it, I have an extra shake but I haven’t needed it.

@furlani , I spoke to my coach and we’ve come up with a plan . it entails an extra shake if needed and always an extra 2 egg whites

@lame87127 I need to do some cardio for heart health. I need to start over on IP as I gained weight but want to do incorporate exercise this time. My center talks about those BCAA amino acids. I feel like it's just another thing to buy.
by (14.8k points)
@furlani , I also take the BCAA’s. They’re important for muscle restoration. I was taking BCAA’s even before IP . I like the ones IP sells. They taste like fruit punch so I almost feel like it’s a treat. Lol

@androgyne what do you do?
by (480 points)
I followed the program:sheet. Initially, this happened inadvertently- I’m a big coffee drinker so that’s how I start my morning. I wasn’t hungry so I started eating later every day until I settled on about 1pm. I drank so much water! Salads, protien, veggies- just as program is laid out. Again, I have a very attentive coach, @claudell7995 said the weight loss was very rapid, she didn’t recommend the fasting. I’m a long time IP member, with her help, successful. The research shows IF has good health benefits so I maintain with a 1pm-8pm window and usually include spinach in choc shake about 8.

Using IF for maintenance is probably fine but not recommended during IP Phase 1. @androgyne if I remember correctly, you were extremely tired w no energy when you tried IF on Phase 1? Is this correct? IP recommends breakfast within one hour of waking up! I do say try not to eat 2-3 hours before bedtime! I personally close the kitchen at 6. (Wish I had a padlock w NO KEY) I always have an IP vanilla drink for breakfast. This is closest I come to IF! Follow the IP phase 1 sheet and YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️

100% - and it works. I do 18:6. So I double up breakfast and lunch packets and veg and consume by 11:00 AM. Then I double up snack and dinner and consume by 5:00. I fast for 18 hours. But follow your natural hunger and intuitive eating patterns. No one needs to faint or binge. Most do 16 fast and 8 eat. I am a bit more aggressive because I like a big meal and not nibbling (suits my busy lifestyle)

@cerotype - yes if you get into a groove of doing this for several days straight. No material difference if you do it one day and not the next. When im really humming - 3. 5lbs a week steadily

@concatenation I do 16:8 and it has made such a difference in my weight loss. I might try to shorten my window.

My mom and I both do
by (480 points)
I wake up and will drink either black tea or coffee, I don’t usually eat until around 2pm and I will stop eating around 8pm, sometimes it’s later because I work two jobs. Drinking lots of water really helps with the hunger for the first bit. My mom is a lot more strict with her fasting, she sticks to a schedule for when she starts and stops eating

This plan already has you fasting. My coach told me when I first started that the time between dinner or your last snack of the day should be at least 12 hours before breakfast. So if you have a snack at 7 pm, then normally breakfast is around 7-8 am. She didn’t recommend going beyond that as it messes with your hunger (getting too hungry) and your brain starts to store fat because it thinks you are starving it. I wouldn’t recommend doing anything more, but check with your coach.

I have never been hungry when doing intermittent fasting. I am not even hungry at noon.
by (1.2k points)
@whirlabout7 that is great, but not everyone is so lucky. The further you go into this plan the easier it gets. But I still get hungry especially after 12 hours!

I do! I’ve do 16:8 minimum, some days I can push it to 19:5, or even 20:4! I feel great and I’m losing! Listen to your body! I do a protein shake at 1:00, supper by 6:00, followed by my next 2 packets which are a restricted and a non restricted - SW cheese curls or if I do a restricted sweet then I do Dorados and a wafer or similar. I quit eating by 7, or 8 at the latest.

@morpho73 I’ve lost as much as 8. 5 and as little as 2. 5. I’ve been doing this the last couple weeks. I’m within 15 pounds of my goal.

@morpho73 I’m seeing what appears and increase in weight loss. I love the way I feel while doing it.

Ok so let me get this You pick an 8 hour period of time that you eat. Then you wait 16 hours to start the 8 hours over again? So would 10:30 am to 6:30 pm work for eating But you eat all meals during this time yes? For those doing this did you find you had better energy? And how did maintaining lean mass work? And only water during the 16 hours?

I've asked IP scientific support and was told it is not reccomended, however I do it. Mainly because I'm a snacker so I want a packet for an afternoon snack and nighttime snack (plus lunch packet). So I typically fast from about 9pm-12pm.
by (250 points)
I do this as well for the same reason! I haven't had any problems, but on days when I do a pilates or barre class in the morning, I will usually have my first IP packet around 10am because I will get a little woozy feeling.
by (9.1k points)
@marci yeah I sometimes have to that too

No point if you're eating the sheet. It's about getting into good habits.

Why complicate things? One diet at a time. But it does work for some.

I used to, but I become hypoglycemic and start shaking and seeing spots. Now I'll only do it 1-2 times a week. I do work out by walking 3 miles a day
by (2.2k points)
@fini5262 how do you know you’re hypoglycemic? Based on those symptoms?
by (1.1k points)
@furlani when it first started happening I tested my glucose level (my husband is a diabetic so I had the machine) it was 59. I ate a small amount of sugar to get it up quicker and let my doctor know what happened, just to make sure I did the right thing. Now I make sure I'm done eating around 7:30pm and I eat breakfast around 8am. This is working for me so far
by (2.2k points)
@fini5262 yes be safe. Thanks.
