Is monk fruit sweetener ok? It’s allowed on keto. Wondering if it would be allowed on IP too?

Best answer
Stevia and sucralose are the approved sweeteners

I use a stevia liquid made by Sweet Leaf, it's pure stevia extract. Super sweet, can only use a little. Truvia (I don't have any to reference) has other ingredients and Pure Via (which I have here in packet form), well the first ingredient is dextrose. The sweeteners in the packets seem to contain non-protocol ingredients while some of the loose, granular versions are fine. Just check the labels.

Curious though. why is monk fruit ok for keto but not for IP?

IP is a ketogenic diet (you are in nutritional ketosis). But it's also a low calorie, low fat, moderate protein diet. Most "keto" diets are higher fat and higher protein (therefore higher calorie).

As for monk fruit, IP approves sweeteners that not not provide an insulin response.

Thank you

That’s strange since I was told is WAS ok to use because it doesn’t provide an insulin response.

I actually asked IP scientific support and they confirmed that it is approved!

Interesting! You would have thought that with a total revamp of all the materials and website, they might have mentioned that!

@manganous exactly! Also wish they would've included in the new protocol that unsweetened sparkling water is allowed!

@tallyman I’d have to check the new website but the old one did say in the Q&A that it was allowed.
