So a friend just signed up- ( yay for her! ) and her advisor told her, that the Chili is restricted, but if you add protein to it that turns it now unrestricted". To me that sounds off to me. I have been told that the difference between R and unR is that there is a bit more fat and carbs in the Restricted. So adding chicken or turkey to a brownie or a peanut butter bar would then make it count as unrestricted, to me, sounds wrong. Any one care to share some insight? I mean, I get advisors are people too, and mis-speak, but this to me is a grave mistake. Thoughts? I really think this advisor just mis- spoke.

I don't think the chili is restricted. Could be wrong. I don't have a box to check.

It is. My advisor feels the fat and carb count is so minimally different, that she allows it as Unrestricted. But using part of your days protein to " turn a restricted item unrestricted" to me sounds far more against plan.

@wolff66432 IP puts R on the restricted for a reason! Your coach should not be telling you any different!

Boy i should actually start looking at these things. LOL Good thing I never eat 2 of the same thing a day anyway.

Chili is restricted but I’ve never been told adding more protein turns it into an unrestricted

@discommon That is because it doesn’t!

You cannot add meat to a packet to change it from restricted to un or un to restricted. Your friend either misunderstood or she needs a new coach ASAP!

@footrope that’s definitely what she just told me

Time for a new coach. Something is restricted because it is higher in calories, fats and/or carbs. Adding meat only increases calories and carbs. I would be FASCINATED to hear her “logic” in that statement!

The informed and up to date coach makes all the difference in this program. I’ve left bad coaches and sought good ones and it really helps with that person who can fully support you.

It's definitely restricted due to carb count.

My coach even told me to limit it to a couple times a week if possible.

It is restricted which means fine but only 1 r per day. Adding protein would make it too much protein. This added protein would probably turn too sugar and get you out of ketosis

Sounds like your friend needs a new coach. restricted is restricted!

@dakar I’m the friend.  I had the hardest time even finding a location who would take on a new patient right now. They were all either laid off, wouldn’t return my calls, or wouldn’t taking new patients right now. I contacted IP directly and they connected me with a person about 20 miles away to do teleconferences. So once my local office opens up, I may get a new advisor.
