If you are a lab tech and have proper strips it is accurate

Keto strips do not measure all three types of ketones. Also, when your body becomes keto-adaptive, the strips could be misinterpreted to mean low production of ketones, not that you are using them up.

The strips are only to find particular key tones-the ones you produce when first in ketosis. Once you produce the different keytones the strips can’t pick them up. They are, in my opinion, a waste of money.

It's kind of odd, as in other ketosis based diets you do test the urine and it is fairly accurate.

If you’re losing then who cares!?

@hooks2766 true. Just I tried to explain to my neighbor why we don’t test ketones and my answer was falling Flat. I felt like I heard we used our Ketones for energy so there is little left for excretion. She has done a keto diet before and felt it should be the same but I know it isn’t.

Copied a while back: ️KEY-WHAT⁉️ KETO STIX -- Did you know after the first week to 10 days on the program you will only detect trace amounts of ketones on these test strips? However, we don’t recommend wasting your money trying to test if you are "in ketosis"! ‍♂️‍♀️ ☝️First reason is because if you are not a type-1 diabetic and your liver and kidneys are functioning properly, ketoacidosis is not a concern. Therefore, you wont be urinating out a lot of excess ketones! ‍‍ ✌️The second reason is Keto Stix only react to 1️⃣️of the 3️⃣️ ketones your body produces. It doesn't react to Beta-Hydroxybutyrate which is the major ketone your body produces, nor does it react to acetone! It only reacts to acetoacetic acid, so you will only show trace amounts even if you are only eating non-restricted foods. ‍‍ SO, if you are losing inches and losing weight you are in the right zone!  #WisdomWednesday #IdealProteinFamily #IdealProtein

Once you are keto-adaptive, roughly 3 weeks in, you do not have excess ketones spilling out into your urine. (Sounds bad but is a natural process in the body) That original period of adaptation is why, if you test during that time, and the reading shows a stronger level of ketosis, that is because its reading what is in your urine at that time. My advice is spend your money on water enhancers, branch chain amino acids, or a product you would like to try, don't waste it on keto strips.

@bramble98 I do the BCAA’s and lemon water enhancer daily

@devi awesome. You'll be producing some beautiful bio-metric readings!

These strips are not terribly expensive. It’s great to have them on-hand when you are starting and later when you start to stall or have had a cheat and want to know when you are back in fat burning mode. They are accurate. They will remain accurate but checking every day gets to be unnecessary unless you are cheating. Other clinics are checking to see if you are cheating the diet (more carbs than you were suppose to have through added portions, too many occasional or completely off-diet). Like your weight-loss, the sticks will ebb and flow. Eg - If you eat tomatoes the night before, it can kick a carb-intolerant person out of deep ketosis. This is me. I really can’t touch restricted or occasional products. Slows down my loss and kicks me out of deep ketosis.

OK and now for the easiest explanation, are you ready? Here it is: it’s not necessary, follow the plan and you will lose weight.

The point was that I was trying to explain it to someone who has done keto and tested her ketones regularly and felt I should be. I knew it wasn't supposed to be easily detectable for us but I couldn't explain why and that was a bit frustrating.

@devi oh in that case. they are unreliable

Ketone don't just show up in urine. They can be released through other ways. Not accurate or reliable.

I lose and they never register more than trace amounts!
