Hello, starting back up today. Veges are going to be a struggle for me, as I'm kinda picky. So I have a question about using the powdered drink mixes to make a shake. I see that folks are incorporating spinach, and I'd like to know what amount of spinach are you all using?

Usually 1 cup of spinach. But you can add more. Another option if you don’t like the texture is to buy powdered spinach. 1 tbsp is equivalent to 1 cup.

Spinach powder? That seems like my kinda thing. Is there a brand you recommend?

@enliven60 I’ve never used it myself. But I’ve heard of others using it. Most people order it from amazon unless you are near a city.

A handfull. Not scientific but I expect I use about 1 1/2 cups, ice cubes, & double the water.

I also add 1 cup of frozen riced cauliflower you can’t taste it and it takes the place of needing ice.

@physiologist I highly recommend this too!

I buy fresh Spinach, wash it, let it dry a bit and then bag and freeze it. When it’s frozen I smash it all up and then scoop it with a spoon into my shake. I’m sure I get more than two cups in each one and I can’t taste the spinach.

Just remember that four cups of spinach per day is not going to be healthy for you. You need variety. Lots of colours.

I know, but I think almost eveything on this diet is green. There isn't much orange or red.

@enliven60 true. I eat a lot of peppers  yellow summer squash? Tomatoes? Radishes?

Tomato are great, but really limited on this diet. But the rest? not so much. I tend to stick with spinach, asparagus, cucumbers, pickles, a few peppers, and tomatoes/green bean for my occasionals. My coach last time said as long as I didn't skip any of the supplements I'd be ok. Oh, and the chayote caramel "apples" from Janevas cookbook are awesome! I do a bunch of that with the oatmeal.

@enliven60 what about after IP?
by (330 points)
@strictly I think I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. One day at a time
by (4.2k points)
@enliven60 besides after P1 you can have yummy things like carrots again. and yes, one step at a time

@strictly my usual (non IP) are green beans, asparagus, cucumbers, celery, carrots, tomatoes, and occasionally corn.

I use the premade and put two cups of spinach in it. You can’t taste it. I hate veggies

I use a handful of spinach in my chocolate I add some Waldon's peanut butter and ice, blend and it's great. O also like the berry yogurt drink with spinach and ice blended. The chocolate you can't see the spinach, but the berry yogurt is green but it tastes really good.
