So my flex spending account approved the product the first appointment and the second time I went to get product, they are trying to deny it. Anyone use flex spending successfully? If you haven't, how do you budget for this program with other bills. Sometimes I wouldn't spend but $90/week for my family of 3 for groceries. I don't want to stop the program but I don't have extra funds if flex spending won't cover me. I provided a letter from my doctor saying it's medical with detailed invoices on the first go around and did the same this go around and they said invalid receipt.

I never had luck with flex money. Always denied. HSA account works well. I can decide what to spend the money on.

Does HSA make it free?

No. It’s still my money in the HSA. So I’m paying for it.

Watch if it’s qualifying expense under IRS guidelines or if you get audited you can be in trouble. Your HSA card will work to buy whatever and you’re responsible for saving receipts and confirming that items qualify. I work in HR and you should be saving receipts for 7 years because they can go backwards to audit. Just FYI!

Yes, it’s crazy! For FSA you don’t have to worry but for HSA you’re on your own. some employers don’t do a great job of educating their staff on that. I always say grab a shoe box, label it for the year and throw all receipts and explanation of benefits in it. So if you ever need it they’re easy to find!

I agree! Keep receipts. IRS HSA info: . Also See IRS pub 502 page 14 under weight loss https://www. irs. gov/pub/irs-pdf/p502. pdf -You can include in medical expenses amounts you pay to lose weight if it is a treatment for a specific disease diagnosed by a physician (such as obesity, hypertension, or heart disease). - you can include food if the need for the food is substantiated by a physician

You need the Dr to “prescribe” it to you and submit it to your insurance with an HCFSA claim form.
