I could have if I had spent $10000 on medical expenses- because my doctor wrote a prescription for ideal protein, so it is considered prescription costs. but I only spent $5000 on medical expenses so I took standard deduction

I’ve used flex spending but not directly as a tax deduction.

If you have a prescription specifically for IP from a doctor you can deduct the cost as a medical expense if you itemize deductions.

if you itemize deductions on your federal tax return you can deduct out of pocket medical expenses. So if your Doctor prescribes ideal protein as a medical necessity for weight loss, what you spend on it would be considered an out of pocket medical expense.

We tried to deduct $18, 000 in medical costs ( 3 back surgeries in one year)and couldn’t because it depends on what your total household income is. USA. But definitely worth checking out. Good luck!
