Second weigh in and I'm down 3 more lbs But my daughter is up 3. she has more weight to loose than I, she swears she drank her water and did not cheat. We are eating the same thing. She's 15 I'm 51. It is her time of the month. First week she was down 10 and I went down 7. Does this make sense? Help. I don't want her to get discouraged and quit. What are we doing wrong?

Maybe next week she will lose double. Make sure she is not drinking diet soda or diet juices that will prevent

I gained on those weeks too . The next week i would have a bigger then normal loss !

I find it's better to look at the month and if you've lost between 8-16, you're doing fine

I gained 4 when I was on my cycle. Lost 3 the following week. I also have to take miralax or something to help with regularity. Doc says this diet tends to bind you up a bit at times and that will cause a gain or no loss that week.

@dispersoid that is so me. This diet, while working extremely well, has messed with my hormones something fierce. I get hormonal migraines, and it’s put me through the wringer. I’ve also had weeks were I gain for no reason at all. And YES miralax works wonders

This is not at all uncommon. With this diet you experience big wooshes like a 10lb drop often followed by no loss or gain the following week. Your bodies are going through a lot and the scale won't always reflect what is really happening. This will happen again so it is a good early practice to have faith and stick with it. Gotta look at the big picture and just keep going. So many of the challenges of weight loss are in our heads. You two are smart to do this together - you can can be each other's strength when you need it. Good luck!

What an awesome mom! A smart scale also really helped me with the head games. More data points like water, muscle, etc helped me not be defined by just one number. Helped me see the whole picture better and how more play into that one number than I had realized. Might be worth the investment to help see the big picture. I got a great renpho for under 20 on Amazon.

Most of use gain water weight when it is time for your monthly cycle- next week she will see a change

From being on this IP diet, have found that I actually gain roughly 7 pounds from water weight and bloating. So, just tell her to expect the slight weight gain on a monthly basis.

Don’t focus on the numbers you’ll turn her off she’s 15! Encourage her to eat intuitively. Don’t make dieting a way of life for her forever. This could lead to an eating disorder.

Historically on this diet you have one good week and then the next one is pretty flat. Add in menses and we’ll you could even gain. Just stick with it and you will be rewarded next week. Hang in there, it works!

If it’s her time of the month then that should explain it! She will probably have a big number next week! Tell her not to be down on herself. keep going
