The closer I get to goal the more I realize jello and collagen is not going to fix my tummy apron that has begun to take over. Has anyone had their belly skin removed after significant weight loss? I have lost 67lbs and have another 10-15lbs to go. Pix please If you have had the surgery

My clinic said you need to wait for surgery until your weight loss has stabilized for a year. Your body will redistribute and firm up a bit in that time.

Best thing I did exactly one year ago. Lost 80. It’s amaaaaaazing. Every day I wake up with a flat stomach and still touch my stomach because it feels so good. Sorry pics on my old phone.

All, what was the recovery like?
by (360 points)
@jacquiline Not as bad as I thought. First few days uncomfortable and gross with the drains but after they are removed not bad at all. U have to not lift anything for like 6 weeks.

I did. I lost a total of 100 lbs, maintained it for a year then went for my consultation. Waited to give my busy a chance to adjust to the weight loss and hoped some of the saggy skin would firm up. It didn’t. Had surgery in February this year. So glad I did

I had panni only with belly button relocation back in a January. That was the only way to help with the extra skin on my stomach/lower abdomen area. I was also having skin issues from it.

What did it cost? Insurance doesn’t cover it?
by (680 points)

@chokeberry3 wow!

@necessarian Barth price varies significantly person to person and also in different areas of the country. The average at the clinic I work at is 6-7k or around 9k with lipo also

If you have breakdown under it insurance will pay. It’s a health concern.
by (560 points)
@padnag - what do you mean by a breakdown? Thanks
by (2.3k points)
I get open areas under mine. It can cause sepsis or bad infection. I know someone who almost died and had to have a few surgeries. My coach said to make sure I have my doctor document it and insurance will cover it.
by (9.1k points)
@padnag not always. I'm a plastic surgery nurse and insurance denies more claims than approves. Some insurances have strict guidelines. They also only cover a panniculectomy and not an abdominoplasty.
by (2.3k points)
@tallyman mine would be a panniculectomy. I have to use prescription creams and cotton under the flap after my shower or I break down. If I get it it would be for health reasons. I’m in my 60’s and a flat stomach isn’t my priority at this stage.

@padnag good luck to you! It will be such a relief to have that skin weight gone! We've removed 10-18 lbs of skin/fat form patients and it is life changing!
by (2.3k points)
@tallyman thank you. It’s made a major difference with my health. My cardiologist told me to do this and I’m so glad he did. I’ve gained and lost hundreds of pounds in my life. I was attempting to lose by counting calories as I always have, without any success. This really works!

Once you are done with the 3 phases and exercice it does tighten up quite a lot

As a plastic surgery nurse, I recommend waiting until your weight has been stable for 6 months. Do a lot of research on surgeons so you get the best results!
by (680 points)
@tallyman. very true. you get what you pay for
by (9.1k points)
@chokeberry3 absolutely! To expensive to not love your end results!
by (680 points)
@tallyman. i found a great surgeon in Maryland!
by (740 points)
It takes about 6 months for skin to catch up with fat loss. Use skin firming creams, eat the jello, and/or other collagen supplements, massage your belly (love it! ) and celebrate your success! Meanwhile, you have time to research surgeons.

@tallyman Can I send you a pm? I have a question

Did abdominolasty in Sept 2018 after weight loss and weight stability. Very satisfied with result. Not posting pix for all to see. Well worth the expense and would do it again. No regrets. Wearing bikinis on beach vacations for the first time ever!
