ONE DAY I will be shopping at “regular size” stores! But until then, I need some transition clothes. 90% of my wardrobe came from Dress Barn and their selection of plus sizes is pitiful right now. Lane Bryant is ok, but they’re trying to be too trendy and Catherine’s can get a little matronly for my tastes. Where are you finding age appropriate clothing for 50ish year olds?

Old Navy— cheap and easy neutral pieces for the transition. When you’re done— donate them.

I forgot about ON but a good idea. There are lots of options there.

@manganate, yes! My favorite transition piece was the black stretchy pencil skirt— I could dress it up or down. And it was 15. 00!

Find a good quality consignment shop near you. When I did this the first time, I went from an 18 to a 6. I had 12-18s in my closet but after that it got expensive so I stopped shopping at regular stores and did consignments.

@gump42814 wait. What? You went from 18 to 6? I’m 20 down from 22 (pushing 24) and hace given up on ever seeing single digit sizes again in my lifetime (I’m 45, pushing 46)!
by (3k points)
@opalescent7889 I know! I started at a 24 and am finally in a 22 (20 in some styles). I’d be THRILLED with a 14! Pre marriage/baby, I was a 12, so I think a 14 is realistic for me.

60 lbs in 10 months. It was weird because m entire adult life I was never smaller than a 12 and when I went to buy clothes even though I knew I’d lost the weight I couldn’t resolve the smaller numbers in my head. Unfortunately I started over two weeks ago because I’m back up to a 12

55 here and even though some is too young or not my style I do like a lot of what Torrid offers. Kohl’s is another possibility and pretty inexpensive. I liked some of the Christopher Banks plus sizes (some seemed too matronly to me). I am in regular sizes now and have actually raided some stuff from my daughter’s closet while she is away at college to use as transitional items.

@manganate I just ordered a few things from Christopher Banks. The Kohl’s and TJMaxx in my town are terrible for plus sizes. I’ll look online there. My main problem is finding pants. I’m booty/hip heavy and everything either gaps in the back or is too tight in the thigh.
by (2.3k points)
@pustulant I’m the opposite. For pants I used to mostly find them at kohl’s online or even basic boyfriend jeans on sale at garnet hill. But my problem is relatively small hips and booty and bigger belly. At Torrid I bought tops, bras, jackets and such. Their pants might work for you.

I don’t know what your style is but I like some things from Fashion Nova, Old Navy , Gabes , Marshalls & Tj max all are go to for me during transition because they aren’t so expensive. Torrid has good clearance options but still expensive IMO for something I can wear a month while going down sizes

Do you have any nice consignment stores in your area? Not Goodwill, just say’n.
by (3k points)
@hydrophane there is one nice one but I’ve seen mostly matronly styles and very few plus sizes. The rest are geared toward jr high/high school kids.

@pustulant oh rats. Can you get away with yoga style slacks everyday? I could and got great ones at Walmart. I am entirely am a blue jeans person but I still like the stretchy slacks from Walmart.

Maurice's and Old Navy have more trendy fashions in plus size.

I’m 52 and I like Soft Surroundings & J. Jill, they are a little pricey but good quality and I pretty much wear the same jeans everyday because I don’t want to be in this bigger size. I’m a nurse so I don’t wear a lot of normal clothes, mostly scrubs

I like the pieces I’ve gotten on amazon. Cheap and cute.

@ziagos just watch out for 3rd party sellers. thewy are difficult to deal with returns. it's odd, but i can lose 40 lbs. and still am at the same size? hm
by (3k points)
@chokedamp yes! I’m down 42 lbs and just now starting to move down a pant size. Blouse size went down around 30-35 lbs. so strange! My 24s are waaaay too loose, but some 22s in the same pant are still too snug to be comfortable.
