Ok. here goes. Fast food without the bun (lower end - McDonald’s, Burger King, etc) usually is NOT a good option because the meat is processed and usually has sugars in it. A chopped salad at subway is a good way to get in your veggies. if you get tomatoes, yellow peppers, etc it’s usually wet enough and doesn’t need dressing. Just ask for protocol veggies (no olives). The meat at subway contains hidden sugars (they actually went in back and brought me out the box it comes in so i can look at nutritional info). Yes, even the rotisserie chicken and grilled chicken contains sugars. Five guys has a burger that they will serve in a lettuce wrap (it’s pure meat). You can add lettuce, tomatoes and onion. But no ketchup (too much sugar). Mustard is a good option. Also, Red Robin will also serve a burger wrapped in lettuce and give unlimited steamed broccoli. Just be sure to ask for no seasoning on the burger. (The seasoning contains sugar). You can add salt and pepper yourself at the table. The unlimited steamed broccoli contains no butter or anything else (it’s a regular item and requires no modification). Another option when out are eggs from a diner - a spinach (or any protocol veggies) and egg omelette (no cheese). Just make sure it’s not ihop - many restaurants like ihop add pancake batter to their eggs to make them fluffy. Just ask. Many restaurants will also do a grilled steak or salmon with steamed veggies on the side. Chili’s and outback have always been good for me. just be specific about no butter or seasonings. Many of the added seasonings they use contain MSG or hidden sugars. Sometimes a local non chain is a better option than a chain because sometimes the veggies at a chain (like Applebee’s) come premade already with butter. In a pinch you can also get a salad off of a salad bar (or buy a bagged salad) at a grocery store and ask for 6 ounces of cooked shrimp at the seafood counter. You can carry around your walden farms when you are on the road. I also have these little prepackaged olive oils that are a little over two teaspoons full. I got them on amazon. It’s great to have that in your purse for in a pinch salad dressing. Stay away from Mexican places - many people say the fajita meat is ok but it almost always is marinated and shot up with sugars. Beef is usually “cleaner” when you are at a restaurant than chicken. Chicken at a restaurant usually contains sugars - especially a chain. Also, sometimes gas stations sell hard boiled eggs and pickles. That’s sometimes a good snack when you are out and about. If you need your protein meal (in a pinch) you can substitute two packets for your protein. Now, you’ll find many people say “I had Burger King off the bun and lost weight”, or “I ate chicken fajita meat weekly”. I’m sure many people did that and were successful. and it’s great that they were . However, everyone eats a different mix of IP foods and veggies and sometimes those extra carbs in the meat can be just enough to kick someone out of ketosis.

Subway chopped chicken salad. Double the chicken. No dressing. bring your own. Hard to eat while driving but good in the parking lot! Lol

@indoeuropean I wasn’t sure if the chicken would be real meat or processed from subway.

@fiat9864 they cut up the "chicken" breast. It's like the cheap bagged chicken breasts you can get at grocery store. I don't by it for home but I have ate at sub way in a pinch. Yo may be able to go in their website and see how bad it is.

@indoeuropean the chicken at subway contains sugars (carbs). They have brought out the box from the back for me to check the nutritional info.

@indoeuropean from the subway website.

I used to work for chick fil a. They do use a marinade so ask for it without. But without the marinade, it’s just plain chicken breast

Salads at most fast food places. Get ranch
by (12.9k points)
Ranch dressing is definitely not protocol. way too much fat and calories. but it is lower in carbs than other options. I’m not trying to be the “protocol police” but I just want the OP to know that it’s not on the plan to have ranch while out. If people chose it in a pinch and it works - that’s great! But it won’t work that way for everyone. Eating out on IP is definitely hard. but there is a difference between completely staying in plan and having a small amount of something off protocol and hoping for the best. I just want the original poster to know the options and she can make her own choices.

Any restaurant that has steak, chicken, fishes. Say you want it cooked with no butter. Ask what veggies they have and request the ones you can have. Also with no butter or sauces

Zoe's Kitchen--the chicken kabob or the shrimp kabob. You have to take the onions off the chicken kabob. Get a double side of roasted vegetables and pick out the carrots (and maybe onions? I haven't been there in awhile so can't remember). The harissa sauce doesn't have sugar. Also any steak place. Tell them no butter or seasoning on the steak, just salt and pepper. Most places have steamed broccoli, be sure to tell them no butter. If they have sauteed vegetables tell them you can't have dairy and to sautee in olive oil. If there are carrots in the sauteed vegetables some places will take them out otherwise just pick them out.

My go to is chipotle salad, they have a kale spinach romaine salad, I add chicken , pico, grilled onions and peppers, I ask for cilantro pour that on top. I don’t eat the dressing. I use Walden Farms dressing.
