I caught sight of myself in the mirror and even though I’ve lost 45 pounds I’m still so blooming fat! I disgust myself. Ugh. Stomach protruding, big arms, bum and thighs - the whole fat look. It’s so depressing. I need to lose another 35 to look vaguely human and another 20 after that to look vaguely slim. It still just seems so far away. It didn’t help that my Facebook memory was of when I was really slim 5 years ago. Why did I let this happen and how will I stop myself from getting back here? It’s still such an uphill struggle. I’m not giving up just realizing I still have a long way to go and feeling blue today.

What’s giving me strength is that this didn’t happen overnight . Did you look at yourself in the mirror and thought oh snap I gained 10 or 45 pounds ? No ! So stop now ! Take pictures and see them side by side . Buy a new outfit and see how much better that fits . Above all , love yourself

I hear you. I was down 87 lbs in 6 months, and still looked at myself in the mirror as a big blob. I was down to size 6 and 8's. Now I have gained it all back in just over 2 years and I think to myself, if only I was the size I was 2 years ago. And now going to try do it all over again. I gave away all my big clothes, but now have to buy new ones along the way. Still have my small clothes , hoping that in the next year I can get back in them.

@disturb16 I think that’s the most painful part. Knowing you were heavy, losing the weight and then gaining it all back! It makes the ride back down that much more painful. ‍♀️

Look at what you've already accomplished, not what you haven't yet accomplished. You can do it!

I hear ya! I’ve felt the same way. I hope you find your motivation. mine has been “Ya can either pay for it now, or later, but if you choose later, ya gotta pay with interest”. It’s never going to be easier than it is today. So do what you can today, and save the rest for tomorrow.

@muhammad511 I know I have to keep at it. I feel so very depressed being this big plus all the health issues associated with it. I just felt particularly bad about it today.

Take your initial picture and put it next to a picture from today! Look at the progress! You can do this!

@mcmanus I must go and look for a photo -been avoiding them since I gained weight but I seem to remember taking one before one of my false starts. That might motivate me .
by (7k points)
@makalu34365 I did it and I’m looking at it daily. Remember, don’t look back, you aren’t going that way.

Most relatable post. Expert yoyo weight gainer and loser here‍♀️ right now I'm down about 28. Another 50 or 60 to go!

@reavis yep! I’m that yo-yo dieter and I’m fed up with myself. I think I will definitely get therapy to help me not regain this time.

@makalu34365 ya know. That's not a bad idea

You can’t go back to your old ways. The weight will come back quick. Keep it up. It’s worth it. I gained back 30 of the 65 I lost. It took four years to gain 30 back. I’m back on it again and have lost 10 of the 30 in 4 weeks. It stinks to not be able to eat what you want and not gain weight.

@plea42 thanks. I’m not. In fact I’m more determined than ever -just depressed about not learning my lesson the last time and gaining even more weight. Grrr

I am feeling the same. I’m down 40lbs, and I was going to take a picture in my full length mirror to send to my friend who hasn’t seen me since I started. When I saw myself, it just didn’t represent the progress I thought I had made. I’m not giving up. Just gonna wait 15 more lbs or so.
by (5.7k points)
@boa9 Welsh that’s exactly how I feel. I may have lost 45# but I’m still fat any way I look at it.

I have these day aswell but I look at a picture of myself and see just how far I’ve come and that really helps me. I’m half way, down around 40lbs , just got scales so can weigh myself tomorrow after 4 weeks . Let today’s feelings spur you to go on ! You will do it!

Also, wear your fav jeans EVERYDAY! You won’t like it if they are tight (keeps me on track). If the pants feel loose, it’s the best feeling in the world. Keep going until you can wear the next lower size. Repeat.
by (5.7k points)
@mahan I wish I could but when I can I will certainly do that!
by (4.6k points)
Wear your current size favs til you get to next lower size.
by (2.9k points)
@mahan I agree. When your clothes feel loose, it really motivates you.

I've lost almost 100 and in the mirror naked isn't pretty. But I feel cute in clothes. haha. Hang in there.
by (5.7k points)
@cygnus wow! Well done!
by (790 points)
@cygnus I like what I look like in clothes, but quit looking in the mirror when I'm not in clothes. I've lost 40. 5lbs and have loose skin. I still have 71lbs to go, and it's not going to get any prettier. I am happier without that peak in the mirror after or before I shower. There's nothing wrong with not looking. Maybe some day we won't feel that way, but for now, I'm ok with not looking. :)

@kimberlite exactly! I was so excited to buy a swimsuit and when I tried it on I was like ooh not yet.  I have worn shorts around the house. first time in 15 years! Not sure I’m ready to wear in public just yet though. Not that we can go anywhere anyway. A tan might help me.  Keep it up. It’s definitely worth it!

Girl, I have these days too. It’s weird, but somedays I actually physically FEEL thinner. then other days, not so much. I try to chalk up the bad days to “hormones” and keep chugging along. We can do it!

Every pound of fat has a story so when you are going through these periods think back to when you first gained those pounds. Process all the feelings and let it go. I’ve lost 65 pounds and still struggle with feeling like I did 65 pounds ago. Stay strong, sometimes our minds play tricks on us!

Don’t give up. I was there. That was me. I started this at over 300 lbs. Now 9 months later I’m down 115 lbs! You CAN do this. Just keep pushing through those hard days. Don’t give up!
